Cameron Baptist Church

Cameron Baptist Church began as a mission work from Temple Baptist Church in Moundsville.
Beginning with Bible studies in homes, a commitment was made to start a church on March 11, 1984
and a vacant church building at 21 Fleming Ave was rented.
The first service was held there on May 20, 1984.
As the congregation grew the building’s size, parking space and
especially its location—with all the steps up the hill—proved to be quite a challenge.
In 1992, property at 10 Adaline Ave. was purchased for the construction site of a new church building.
Volunteer building groups from Southern Baptist churches in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina,
Virginia and West Virginia came to give of their time, talents and money to build the church.
The first service was held there on June 24, 1992
with a dedication service to follow on May 23, 1993.
In 1999 the church again became aware they were outgrowing their present facility and began researching
possibilities for building expansion or the purchase of other properties nearby.
In the fall of 2000 two small houses were donated to the church and then an adjoining 4.25 acre area became available for purchase.
That purchase was made in March of 2001 and a groundbreaking ceremony was held on the site on May 5th.
The actual construction did not begin until the summer of 2002 when once again,
volunteer groups from churches in many states came to Cameron to help us construct our present church building.
Services began there in September of 2002 and a dedication ceremony was held on October 20, 2002.
During the years Cameron Baptist Church has begun two successful mission works—
Ryerson Baptist, in Ryerson PA (which has constituted into a church) and Solid Rock Baptist in Hundred, WV.
Our members have been involved in mission trips to Vermont, Virginia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Ohio,
and different places in West Virginia as we show God’s love and attempt to meet needs for others as we have been helped.
The ‘Church on the hill’ burned down in 1996, the building on Adaline Ave was used as a Head Start Center,
and then was sold to the Seven Hills Church of Christ.
If you look around our present building you can see fill dirt piled in anticipation of growth in the
fulfillment of our vision of future building expansion. GOD IS ABLE!
