Emmanual Baptist Church


March 14, 1961 - A small group of people met in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Doffermyer for a fellowship meeting. 
The meeting was conducted by area missionary, Rev. Robert Hall.
 
June 1961 - The St. Clairsville Baptist Mission began.  The work was sponsored by the Temple Baptist Church of Moundsville, WV.
 
August 6-13, 1961 - First Revival Services were held in the St. Clairsville High School Auditorium.  Rev. Thomas Gordon of Dayton, Ohio was the evangelist.
 
October 22, 1961 - The mission moved into the first floor apartment of the Smith Building at 114 East Main St. St. Clairsville, Ohio.
 
May 20, 1962 - Brother Leonard Ferguson accepted the position of interim pastor of the mission.
 
February 10, 1963 - Rev. Keith Oliphant became the first pastor of the mission.
 
September 29, 1963 - The mission constituted into the Emmanuel Baptist Church with 32 charter members.
 
January 3, 1964 - Groundbreaking ceremonies were held at 50470 National Rd. St. Clairsville, Ohio.
 
July 4, 1965 - First service was conducted in the new building.  The mortgage on the building was $24,000.
 
August 29, 1965 - Building was dedicated.
 
April 6, 1975 - Burning of the mortgage ceremony held.
 
1977 - New church addition was added, including several Sunday school classrooms, fellowship hall and kitchen and an additional restroom.
 
2007 - Sanctuary renovations were made.
